Mastication Massage
2m 48s
Chewing involves two areas of muscles - below the cheekbone and above (where the temple is and above ears).
First we are going to massage the under cheekbone area with our knuckles.
Unclench your jaw or slightly open your mouth.
Then press deep into the muscles. They are usually super tight and hard, so it can be a bit painful.
Move your knuckles around to release all the stiff areas.
You can do this exercise every day.
Then we press the phalanxes of our index fingers into the muscles just under our cheekbones and slowly move them down, all the way to the bottom of our jaw.
If you place your thumbs under your jaw it will be easier.
Maintain decent pressure and keep your jaw unclenched.
Alright. Now we move above the cheekbone.
You can use your fingertips or knuckles to massage these muscles.
The area is pretty big, so clench your jaw a few times and feel around for the muscles that are moving. This is where you want to focus your massage.
I know that massaging the temple might be unpleasant, I used to avoid it too.
Just do what you can without hurting yourself.
After massage we are going to stretch it a bit.
Place the base of your palms on the temples, press them in and slowly move above the ears towards the back of your head.
Then reset, and move from your temples towards the top of your ears.
Then reset one more time, now using your phalanxes and moving from the temple, above your cheekbones towards the top of the ears.
And that’s it!
